“Sangeetha Bhushanam” Late Sri P.R Subramania Bhagavathar was born on 17th October 1926 as second Son of Late Sri P.N Ramaswami Iyer & Late Smt. Parvathy Ammal, in a small Village known as “Vellinezhi” which, later became the Center of “Fine-Arts” in Palakkad District, Kerala State. Many of his disciples are well known Carnatic musicians today.
Late Bhagavathar was a student of “Padma Bhushan” & “Sangeetha Samrat”, Late Sri Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar and learned carnatic music under his tutelage. Later, he had his higher studies from Annamalai University, Chidambaram. He received the Title “Sangeetha Bhushanam” in 1951. He performed many concerts, not only in Kerala, but also outside Kerala, as well as in All India Radio. He also rendered his valuable service as a music teacher in various Government schools in Kerala, for nearly three decades and superannuated in the year 1982. He passed away on 22 August 1989.
The Sangeetha Bhushanam Vellinezhi Subramania Bhagavathar Memorial Trust (Regd.) has been instituted by his family members and disciples as atribute to Bhagavathar.
INTRODUCTION
Sangeetha Bhushanam Vellinezhi Subramania Bhagavathar Memorial Trust (Regd) was established on 13/01/2017 as a registered private Trust by the children, family members and prominent disciplies of late Shri. Subramania Bhagavathar for his respectful memory and propagating carnatic music. The Trust grants award to musicians in his name and conducts carnatic classical concerts annually at Olappamanna Mana, Vellinezhi . The Trust in association with “Sadhgurukulam”, an institution for imparting carnatic music to interested students established in the year 2010 by Dr. Vellinezhi Subramaniam at Olappamanna Mana, Vellinezhi conducts the “Subramania Bhagavathar Anusmaranam” function in January every year. This annual function is attended by prominent Carnatic Musicians.
“Sadhgurukulam” imparts carnatic music coaching to interested students irrespective of caste, creed & religion. No fee is charged from students who cannot afford to pay but have the flair to learn. “Sadhgurukulam” is a self-sustaining institution adopting the principle of charging reasonable fee from students who can afford to pay and passing on the concession to the economically backward students. Currently, “Sadhgurukulam” has 147 students and growing every year.
SADHGURUKULAM
In the cultural map of Kerala, “Vellinezhi” in Palakkad district, being honoured as “Kalagramam” occupies a prominent place. With the message, “Music for peace”, an institution viz. “Sadhgurukulam” was established by Dr. Vellinezhi Subramaniam in the year 2010 at Olappamanna Mana, Vellinezhi. Its inauguration was done by the renowned musician, Kalaimamani Innisai Bhanu Shri. Trichy S. Ganesh. More than 100 students from different parts of Palakkad and other districts are learning Carnatic Music – Vocal, Violin, Mridangam, etc. in this institution.
OBJECTIVE
Olappamanna Mana (in Vellinezhi) has been known for promoting artists, culture and recognizing eminent performers for centuries.“Sadhgurukulam” is an institution established in 2010 by Dr. Vellinezhi Subramaniam, one of the disciplies of Sangeetha Bhushanam Vellinezhi Subramania Bhagavathar. Objective of “Sadhgurukulam” has been to promote carnatic music in Vellinezhi and surrounding areas. Considering the noble cause, the Olappamanna Mana has provided suitable place for conducting music classes on rent- free basis.
